G e n e R a n t z
Painting in Kachemak Bay, Alaska
Gene graduated as an art major from Western Michigan university in 1954 and spent his early years working as a graphic artist in the Kalamazoo area. The past 30 years he has worked in fine art as a landscape painter in the traditional, direct from nature, style of the early impressionist and tonalist painters.
Summers and fall he paints the wonderful landscapes of Leelanau peninsula in northern Michigan and relocates to his home/studio in Suwannee, Florida for the winter.
He also spends time in Alaska painting the rugged coastal area around Homer.

WATERCOLORS
Many of my outdoor plein air paintings are done with watercolors. They dry quickly, which is very important outdoors and lend themselves to the soft blending and great detail that I like. Often I develop larger oil paintings in the studio from these wonderful smaller paintings.
My watercolors are framed using a white mat with black core and protected with archival, non-glare, untra violet resistant acrylic plexiglass.
