Florida Giclees - The Classic Collection
“In the winter of 1985 in Northern Michigan, waist-deep in snow, I decided to try my hand at art fairs in Florida. I felt I had spent enough life in business, meeting never ending deadlines in the commercial advertising art world. I was not drawn to south Florida normally visited by snowbirds. ‘Too congested, no room to get away by oneself.’ Looking at a map of the state, I put my finger on a place called Suwannee. Twenty five miles separated it from the main road plus it was on the Gulf at the mouth of a wonderous river. Perfect! Lots of water to explore. Lots of natural things and places to paint and endless sources of inspiration. After camping a while in Suwannee, I invested in a small house on Demory Hill and have spent every winter since exploring, fishing and painting the precious local scene, enjoying it ever more as time goes by.” Gene Rantz
